THE curious CASE OF DANCING
Depending on the perspective, „Dancing“ can mean two distinct things within Longboard Dancing.
Traditionally, in Longboard Dancing, we speak of Dancing & Freestyle – in this context, Dancing can be translated as footwork and Freestyle as tricks.
However, from the perspective of Longboard Dancing Fusion, the meaning of Dancing is all about bringing various Dance Styles into Longboarding.
Let’s have a closer look at these definitions:
Rooted in the relaxed steps and manoeuvres from Longboard Surfing, spiced up with dynamic tricks from Skateboarding, Longboard Dancing meets the middle of both worlds. What makes it stand out, though, is the constant side-to-side carving motion that makes all movements look like a dance – hence the name.
The goal of every Longboard Dancer is to build creative Lines, a way to manipulate the Longboard while combining steps, manuals and tricks in a creative and increasingly difficult way – whilst making it look effortless.
Be it through the translation and (re-)interpretation of specific Dancing styles or through an Open Style: what defines Lbd fusion are aspects like musicality, expression, dynamics and textures. Of course, it doesn't exclude steps or tricks from Longboard Dancing. However, these are Less of the focus point to emphasize Whereas Dancing becomes the focal point on the Longboard.
The overall goal of this approach is to connect Longboarding with Dancing.
